About the Event

"THERE IS A CRACK IN EVERYTHING. THAT'S HOW THE LIGHT GETS IN." LEONARD COHEN

By definition, Kintsugi is the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with gold lacquer. In philosophy, it's a celebration of imperfections. With loving kindness we mend the broken pot, giving special care to it's cracks. For it's these cracks that make each Kintsugi unique, believing the pot is more beautiful for having been broken.

WE ARE ALL KINTSUGI.

Our experiences wear us down, shatter us. While we may want to hide these flaws and ignore our cracks, kintsugi teaches us that each crack is an honest reminder of our history. Of battles won and lost. Of people loved. Of our successes and failures. And of the quiet faith we must have in ourselves. Join Just A Girl as we celebrate our experiences through this unique and heartfelt virtual workshop. You are beautiful - it's time to celebrate it!

In this online workshop, you'll create your own kintsugi from the comfort of home with the help of live, virtual instruction from our founder and celebrated kintsugi artist, Kirsten Helgeson. We box up all the materials you will need, sending them right to your front door prior to the workshop. Our goal is that you walk away with a greater sense of honesty, connection and compassion for your personal experiences - along with your own personal piece of kintsugi.

Each KINTSUGI@HOME Box includes:

  • One piece of pottery
  • One syringe of two-part, clear epoxy
  • Epoxy putty
  • Gold pigment powder
  • Mixing dish
  • Epoxy application sticks
  • One jar of gold enamel
  • Small brushes for enamel
  • Acetone pads

A Few Details:

  • We will email you a calendar invite with a link to BlueJeans, our video conferencing provier.
  • Sharp edges can happen when you break pottery, so please be careful. We recommend adult supervision for anyone under age 18.
  • Mixing the epoxy creates a chemical reaction. People with sensitive skin or allergies may want to consider wearing gloves.
  • Every piece of kintsugi is unique, and many pieces go back together in unexpected ways. Trust yourself and know that what you're creating is entirely original - just like you.

We've helped hundreds of people across the U.S. create kintsugi and celebrate their experiences. We hope you join us as we make this beautiful art form and philosophy accessible to everyone.
