I have a severe fear of death. Is there anything I can do to help with this? I've been struggling with this fear since I was 5. I'm 15 now. Can someone maybe give me advice?
Thank you for sharing - it's a lot to grapple with. Depending on where you live, some states allow you to get therapy on your own at age 14 or 15 (so check into that). There are some sites offering free or low cost services as well, particularly during the pandemic. And there are a lot of virtual therapy options.
Also, we love ROOTD, an app developed by women for women that walks you through coping strategies for panic and anxiety in the moment. This could be a great tool to help you during moments when your anxiety starts to rise.
I also think it is important for you to start actively building a self-care plan. This will help you to build healthy coping mechanisms and make sure that you're holding safe space to care for yourself. She clearly needs some healthy coping mechanisms. Here's a really great framework to get you started with this - it's called BASIC-PH. This approach outlines six categories of self-care. The goal is to identify ideas that align with each category. Things that you can do that align with the category theme. I've also included the Self-Care Wheel, which has some great activities that support a self-care plan. You can even download a version of this on the website (olgaphoenix.com). Cut the wheel out and put a push pin through the center of the wheel. Spin it and pick an activity from the category you land on.
Let me know what you think of all this. Do any of these seem doable or helpful?
Thank you for reaching out and sharing. Have you been trying to manage this on your own? Have you ever sought help? There are a few approaches that could be of help.
